So this week is Spring Break (thank the Lord) so we have attempted to get some rest and also get a few more things prepared for the arrival of Cuervo (my friend Bianca lovingly dubbed that the baby nickname because both the baby and Cuervo make me puke) . This came in the form of attempting to start our registry at Babies R Us.
For those of you that have already done this process I imagine right now that you are already enjoying a little chuckle because you remember this process. For those of you that haven't get ready for some reality. Let it be known that registering for a wedding is FAR more enjoyable and rewarding than registering for a baby. Just sit back and reminisce about that sweet time....You are giddy with excitement and choosing items that are soley for YOU and your HUSBAND. Its all stuff that you WANT. I mean, sure there are items that we all need on these lists, but really who are we kidding. We aren't getting married straight out of high school anymore. We have most of the essentials to get us through...so really anything that you get for a wedding gift is just a bonus. John and I ended up with so many extra sets of dishware that we exchanged it and had enough to buy a TV. A television people! Now thats just good fun! I remember John and I taking that scanner and having a hay day! Scan, scan, scan, love, love, love, fun, fun, and MORE fun! Registering for a baby goes something like this...
1. You register and they give you the list of "essential" items that your baby will "need". Let me redefine the word "need" for you at this time. If you register for all these "needs" and actually get all of them, your child will have enough to get them safely to the first year of college. So, step one includes sifting through this list and figuring out how much of this stuff you really "need."
2. Scanner in hand you attempt to "choose" items that you know NOTHING about. Sure, you've done your consumer reports, you've seen the things your friends have purchased, but let's be real...YOU KNOW NOTHING. I am fully convinced that John and I looked like monkeys, trying to pick bugs out of each other's hair. "How does this thing move?" "Where is the release button?" "Do we need a high chair that matches the kitchen, looks pink, looks blue, or looks like something in between.." Or, my personal favorite "Will this injure/kill the baby?!?" This is a legitimate question people. How many coils really are standard on a baby mattress?!?! No one really knows!!
3. The whole time in this process you still have to make this process seem "fun" to your poor husband. We were there for about an hour, in which time we only registered for 15 items. I agreed to throw in the towel and come back on my own (read-with a girlfriend or sister that has kids and can tell me what the hell to do). I haven't seen relief on John's face like that since he proposed and I said yes. I swear the man looked like he had run a marathon. We brought the scanner back to the front and the poor guy didn't utter a word. We got in the car and he managed to utter out "we have to do more research!" Ha! Uh...ya think? The way I see it- that WAS research. When I told him that there were several items that I thought we should register for at Target he responded with "but not today, RIGHT?" Of course not honey.
All in all...I do feel like it was a lot of good research. We got to look at a lot of items and figure out what we liked and didn't. And thanks to this fabulous internet thing, we can go online and change our minds about 1,000,000 times. And I am sure we will.
On another fun note, we had another doc's appointment, heard the heartbeat and the doc said that we will do an ultrasound next appointment and (fingers crossed) will find out the sex of the baby!! We are super excited and can't wait until April 15th. So, put your guess in before it's too late. You know my family hasn't missed an opportunity to make bets on that one!

  1. Congrats again! I love reading your posts. You're hilarious! I hated registering too. I took my sister with me. She helped me out tons. I didn't register at Target though. Just remember when you register there you need to make sure you get a receipt with the gift otherwise it's hell trying to return or exchange something. They're really strict with their return policy. It's so ANNOYING! Looking forward to hear what y'all are having!
